Love, Mom

This is a series of journals written during my mom’s healing process. She is the ultimate definition of a strong black woman. Her matriarchal strength is unmatched, she is the oldest of thirteen siblings.

Five siblings celebrated their 50th year of reunion gatherings in 2024. She is the mother of seven children of which 4 are living and the widow of two husbands. Her longstanding church membership of over 60 years is an extension of previous church memberships where her call to serve as an usher, Sunday school teacher and other church leadership positions has been a common thread.
The titles of aunty, grandma and sister don’t go unnoticed as they are lovingly expressed from those of her generations and various other relationships.
Had I written this before my own healing, before my own calling to #RedefiningStrong it would have been a sizzling tell all, bitter account, juicy details, an all-out airing of dirty laundry complete rebellious response to “what goes on in this house (family) stays in this house and judgmental. Instead, God’s impeccable timing is shedding light on the shallow depth of strong. The absolute necessity to live out His Word throughout every season of our lives, towards every person and regardless of the situation is the road to healing, for my mom and I as we look into each others eyes – her seeing her past and me seeing my future.
I am not speaking for my sisters. I’m sharing from the shallow depth of strong to become strength through the power of God for my generations. I understand my truth will ebb and flow but I know that it’s underlining message and its period is the word of God.
Last, please don’t mistake my candid sense of dry humor and my willingness to reflect deeply as “unsaved commentary” some of it is the very necessity I discovered towards #RedefiningStrong, some of it is why my name means Favored Woman Full and Truth and some of it is I was born in sin just like the rest of us. Please know that all of it is my desire to turn back to God in and through my entire life and to point others back to Him and for all of us to live there until we live with Him in and through eternity.
I appreciate your presence and I'm happy to have you join the #RedefiningStrong community.
